‘SIT DOWN!’ Australian Politician Barks at His Dog in Bizarre Live TV Moment

Australian Member of Parliament Barnaby Joyce was right about to answer a serious question during a live TV interview on Monday when he took a quick detour to bark at his dog.

“SIT DOWN!” Joyce screamed.

The prime minister turned to his left and looked down at the pooch, which was off-camera, before turning back to the camera.

“Sorry, it’s a dog,” Joyce said. He then let out a little giggle.

The Guardian Australia political reporter Josh Butler posted Joyce’s yelp on X, which you can see below:

The bizarre moment happened during an interview on ABC 7.30, a nightly current affairs program. Anchor Sarah Ferguson had asked Joyce if he was “comfortable” with his political pal Pauline Hanson meeting with right-wing British activist Tommy Robinson, who has argued for banning all Muslim immigration to the U.K. Hanson is the founder of the One Nation party, which Joyce defected to last year.

“It seems to me Barnaby Joyce, it seems to me your decision to defect to One Nation is dragging you further into a place of intolerance and racial discrimination,” Ferguson said. “You’re defending your leader, but are you comfortable with where she is taking you?”

“I think it’s incredibly important we see the Australian people also — also — have changed their view,” he said after he shouted at his dog. “We’ve got about 30% of people in the last poll who have clearly said they want a change in direction in where Australia goes. And what my role is, is to make sure we get a proper process that gives the Australian people that choice.”

Ferguson then asked if he had set a “limit” on how far he was willing to go to support Hanson. Joyce scoffed at the question.

As for canines, Butler pointed out Joyce got into a public battle with Johnny Depp in 2015 over the actor’s pups. Joyce ripped Depp for not declaring his two dogs with customs or following Australia’s dog quarantine rules.

“Mr. Depp has to either take his dogs back to California or we’re going to have to euthanize them,” Joyce said.

Depp flew the dogs back just before the 50-hour deadline Joyce gave him ended.
