UPDATE: Charlie Kirk Shooting Suspect Still At-Large

The suspect who fatally shot conservative activist Charlie Kirk at an event in Utah on Wednesday is reportedly on the loose, while a man seen being detained by cops in a clip widely shared on social media is not who they’re looking for.

A video circulating on social media showed the moment a man was taken into custody after Utah Valley University sent an alert to students read, “A single shot was fired on campus toward a visiting speaker. Police are investigating now, suspect in custody.” Subsequently, police announced that they had determined that the man they had detained was not actually the shooter.

The video, shared on numerous conservative social media accounts, shows the man, appearing to be in his 50s or 60s, as he’s placed in cuffs.

“The police have determined that a person who was taken into custody after the shooting was not actually the gunman, according to Scott Trotter, a university spokesman. The university had earlier said a suspect was in custody,” the New York Times later reported.

“I have the right to remain silent,” the man is heard saying in the clip.

Another video shows the same man, screaming and with his pants around his ankles, being dragged away by police.

The authenticity of the clips could not immediately be determined, but it has been widely shared on right-leaning social media accounts.

Kirk was shot as he gave a speech at Utah Valley University. Video from the scene shows a single shot hitting Kirk in the neck.

Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, was rushed to a hospital. He was later pronounced dead.
