Trump Denies Americans Are ‘Against the War’ With Iran: ‘A Poll Just Came Out’

President Donald Trump insisted Wednesday that Americans “aren’t against” the U.S. war with Iran, brushing aside questions about public opposition as he departed for a dignified transfer ceremony honoring service members killed in the conflict.

Speaking with reporters on the tarmac before traveling to a dignified transfer ceremony at Dover Air Force Base, Trump rejected suggestions that voters had turned against the war.

“Americans aren’t against the war,” Trump said in response to one reporter. “A poll just came out. Americans don’t want high gasoline prices, but they’re not against the war.”

He continued: “That just came out loud and clear in a poll.”

“Nobody wants Iran to have a nuclear weapon,” he added. “Do you want Iran to have a nuclear weapon? You think it’s good?”

The president did not identify the survey he was referencing.

Trump’s remarks came as new polling points to growing skepticism over the conflict, including among his own political base. A Politico/Public First survey published Wednesday found support for the war has softened significantly among self-identified MAGA voters as the conflict enters another phase following the collapse of a temporary ceasefire.

According to the poll, just over one-third of MAGA voters now believe the war is worth its economic costs, down 13 points from May. The share who say the U.S. should remain involved only if the conflict does not drive up costs also increased, while nearly one in five said the United States should end its involvement regardless of the economic consequences.

The latest findings follow renewed fighting between Washington and Tehran after a tentative peace agreement broke down earlier this month. U.S. and Iranian forces have exchanged strikes in recent weeks, while disruptions to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz have contributed to rising energy prices.

The Pentagon has identified four service members who died in the recent exchange of fire between the two sides, including Sgt. Angel S. Rampersad, 1st Lt. Tyler Feehan and Pvt. Isabella Gonzales, who were killed during strikes in Jordan. Sgt. Michael Emmanuel Swinton was also killed after a drone detonation at Erbil Air Base in Iraq.
