Trump Family Announces Death of Melania’s Mother Amalija Knavs

Former First Lady Melania Trump and former President Donald Trump announced the death of Melania’s mother Amalija Knavs on Tuesday evening.
“It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of my beloved mother, Amalija,” announced the former first lady on X. “Amalija Knavs was a strong woman who always carried herself with grace, warmth, and dignity. She was entirely devoted to her husband, daughters, grandson, and son-in-law. We will miss her beyond measure and continue to honor and love her legacy.”
In his own statement on Truth Social, former President Trump wrote, “This is a very sad night for the entire Trump family!!!”
He added, “Melania’s great and beautiful mother, Amalija, has just gone to a beautiful place in the sky. She was an incredible woman, and will be missed far beyond words!”
Trump also shared a photo of himself with Knavs, captioned, “Melania’s great mother, Amalija.”
Knavs – who was born in Austria before becoming a U.S. citizen in August 2018 – passed away at the age of 78 after suffering from ill health over the new year.
Melania Trump’s absence from her family’s 2023 Christmas card photo led to speculation in the media before it was revealed that the former first lady had been by her mother’s side at a hospital in Miami when the photo was taken.
During his New Year’s Eve party at Mar-a-Lago last month, former President Trump had told attendees that Melania was still with her mother in hospital.
