President Donald Trump ordered all U.S. flags to be lowered for one week in honor of Dolly Parton, whose death was announced on Tuesday.
“Very sad to report that Dolly Parton, one of the greatest Country singers, and far beyond, EVER, has just passed away,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
He added:
This is a true loss for millions of people. There has never been anyone like her, and never will. In her honor, I am lowering the American flag throughout the United States for a one week period beginning tonight at 6:00PM. Rest in Peace, Dolly! The World loves you. President DONALD J. TRUMP
Parton’s death was announced via video shared by her family on social media.
“I have imagined the heaviness of this moment but haven’t truly felt it until now,” her nephew Bryan Seaver said in the message.
He also noted that Parton lived her life fully and with happiness. “Dolly has lived in the light, and is in the arms of Jesus, surely met by Carl, her parents, and countless others who have watched her and longed for her to meet them in the heavens,” he added.
Seaver, who began working for Parton in the 1980s, recalled what a life lived alongside her was like.
“Dolly also opened doors for generations of singers, songwriters, musicians, and dreamers from every walk of life and across every continent,” he explained. “By her example, we believed that anything was possible. She never saw a door that she couldn’t open, and the doors she opened made and changed history.”
“Rest in peace, Aunt Dolly, Aunt Granny, Gigi,” said Seaver at the video’s end. “May God bless Dolly Parton, and may God bless you all. She will always love you.”
