WATCH: Politician Goes ‘Ham’ With Eggs After Acting PM Asks For More Time

An opposition lawmaker in Kosovo’s parliament hurled eggs at acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti during a plenary session this week when he asked for more time on a key vote.

The chaos ensued after Kurti told members of parliament he wasn’t prepared to nominate a candidate for president without additional time to confer with other opposition parties.

The Alliance Party MP, whose name also happened to be “Time” — Time Kadrijaj — pulled at least four brown eggs from her bag and launched them at Kurti while yelling, “Shame, shame!”

Kadrijaj finally stopped her egg toss when lawmakers and police officers intervened, but her antics forced parliament to suspend its session.

Kurti said he was “happy to pay this price” for extending the talks.

“The 51-year-old is no stranger to parliamentary disruption, with his own party members having previously set off tear gas in the chamber to protest against votes when they were in opposition,” reported Euractiv.

One reason for all the parliamentary turmoil, according to Euractiv, is that Kosovo is Europe’s youngest democracy that has “faced three elections in less than two years, with successive parliaments collapsing under deep political divisions.”

“Kurti’s Vetevendosje party topped the last election in June with enough of a majority to govern, but still requires a two-thirds majority to elect a new president – leaving the former activist in talks with opposition parties,” the report said. “So far neither side has agreed on a candidate, leaving Kurti in a familiar stalemate.”

The report continued that “Rival MPs have threatened legal action over Kurti’s request for more time to negotiate, and it remains unclear whether his request to delay the speaker’s election will be allowed to proceed.”

The Kosovo assembly has been the site of other disruptions. In 2023 as Kurti was speaking at the podium, Mergim Lushtaku, a deputy from the the Democratic Party of Kosovo, threw a bottle of water at him, which prompted a massive brawl as more and more MPs joined in.
