Bannon Doubts Musk’s DOGE Can Reach $1 Trillion ‘Waste, Fraud, and Abuse’ Goal, Warns Dems Will ‘Use That Against’ Trump

Steve Bannon called for more transparency from Elon Musk and DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency), casting doubt on them reaching a $1 trillion goal.

“There’s going to have to be an indication, I’m just asking for a fist cut, I’m not going to hold you to the number,” Bannon said on his War Room podcast. “Is it $25 billion? $50 billion, is it $100 billion? Is it $10 billion? I really don’t care what the number is right now. What is the absolute number? Let’s drive a stake in the ground.”

Bannon argued major spending cuts are needed as part of the upcoming federal budget negotiations and not enough cuts are going to be found through “waste, fraud, and abuse.”

“This is not a smear against DOGE. I love what DOGE is attempting to do, but the waste, fraud, and abuse is not going to be $1 trillion. It’s just not going to be,” he said.

Bannon warned Democrats could capitalize on the failed $1 trillion goal, using it against President Donald Trump. Bannon suggested on his show that Musk has been driving the president’s poll numbers down and urged him to reveal more “specifics” from DOGE. The former Trump advisor did offer praise to DOGE, calling them the “shock troops” going “behind enemy lines.”

“We’ve got to cut federal spending. It’s driving inflation, it’s driving everything, and I think the numbers are going to rapidly deteriorate, going to rapidly deteriorate and the Democrats are going to use that against President Trump,” he said.

At Trump’s first Cabinet meeting last month, Musk said the country would go “bankrupt” without drastic cuts and he set the goal of finding $1 trillion in “savings.”

Bannon has targeted Musk in the past, calling him a “parasitic illegal immigrant” who wants to “play-act as God without any respect for the country’s history, values, or traditions.”

On his latest War Room, Bannon also issued a warning to MAGA followers about “tech bros” that are “loving up on Trump.”

“We talk about deplatforming, all those tech bros that are running around and all loving up on President Trump and everybody around President Trump, they were the tip of the spear in doing that and they all bought in,” he said, adding, “Don’t trust any of them as far as you can throw them. They’re not good people, they’re not trustworthy.”
