COVER WARS: The All-Time Greatest Cover In The Twilight Saga So Far

Kristen-Stewart-Interview-Magazine-October-November-1It’s been a big Fall so far for Stewart, as she’s taken turns on both Allure and Interview all alone. And while the Allure cover is your typical beauty mag fare, she went a bit artsy for Andy Warhol’s old rag. It’s probably the most high brow invitation for the real life Bella Swan up to this point, and we’re sure she’s excited to break free from the teen star mold. Want to hear something scary? She was born in 1990.

Mediaite Grade (A): For the magazine’s 40th anniversary issue, Interview took a risk using a young starlet who may not have the kind of cultural cachet of their typical cover model. But heavy on the eye makeup, with an ice cold glare, Stewart pulls it off. There’s all kinds of symbolism in the torn off mouth mask, but we won’t even go there. We’re just glad they didn’t clutter the cover with unnecessary headlines.

robert-pattinson-gq-magazine-coverIf Kristen made the big time with Interview, Rob took his solo turn on a grown-up GQ cover. Here, he got to duplicate his patented sculpted pose — it’s a bit Zoolander, really — but transcended his teen girl fan base, taking a chance to become a guy’s guy. Don’t be surprised if Rob’s first post-Twilight film is an action epic about a jet pilot or an ultimate fighter, because the last thing he wants is to be stuck in career quicksand made of glitter.

Mediate Grade (A-): Give Rob and his stylists some credit: he’s in a class with James Franco and Clive Owen in this gentleman’s shot. The skinny tie and scruff work well to counter the feathered hair, and the slick gray suit adds a dash of refinement to the image. He’s successfully made up, but still looks nonchalant. Still, we’re left wondering if this is really who GQ readers want on their cover.

COVER WARS WINNER: Interview

It’s a matter of chance that a collective of kids happened to get involved with a phenomenon like the Twilight franchise. And it’s likely that the release of New Moon will do for Taylor Lautner what the first movie did for Kristen and Rob. But taking advantage of this whirlwind of a year, no one has made bigger gains than the shy and awkward Kristen Stewart. Her resumé and stature seem to be growing quickest and an adventurous Interview cover puts her in a different league altogether. We, along with legions of fans, are anxious to see where the next chapter of Twilight-mania takes us. And the magazines will guide us.
