WATCH: Tennis Match Turns Chaotic When Photographer Walks Onto Court Right Before Serve

At U.S. Open match on Sunday night was halted for an extended period of time after a photographer inexplicably walked onto the court during play.

Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev was taking on Benjamin Bonzi of France in the first round of the tournament when, late in the third set — with Bonzi on the cusp of victory — the photographer suddenly walked onto the court as Bonzi was just about to serve.

“Wait, please!” the umpire said on the microphone. “Not now! Get off the court, please!”

Because of the interference, the umpire then announced that the upcoming serve would be first serve. That announcement was met with boos from the crowd because Bonzi had just missed his first serve — so he was essentially given another attempt even though the interference occurred well after his previous failed attempt.

Medvedev was just as upset at the crowd and quickly ran toward the umpire’s chair to argue the ruling. He then began encourage the crowd to amp up the booing.

“Are you a man?” Medvedev could be heard saying to the umpire. Then, the Russian player looked directly into one of the cameras and added, “He wants to go home, guys.”

“He doesn’t like to be here,” he continued. “He gets paid by the match, not by the hour.”

Trailing two sets to none at the time of the interference, Medvedev nearly came back from the brink of defeat when he won the next two sets. Bonzi would go on to win the deciding fifth set.
