‘Caricature of Wokeism!’ CNN Panelist Says ‘Democrats Are Hysterical’ Over Leading Gov Candidate

A CNN panelist claimed Thursday that Democrats were very concerned about the possibility of Francesca Hong winning the party’s primary in Wisconsin’s gubernatorial race.

Hong, a Democratic Socialist, is part of a nationwide movement that has seen progressive candidates win key races ahead of the upcoming midterm elections. While most of those races have involved the House and Senate, Hong is running to become the next governor of Wisconsin.

Earlier in the week, the political world was stunned by Abdul El-Sayed’s win in the Michigan Democratic Senate Primary. El-Sayed overcame a massive fundraising deficit, with moderate opponent Haley Stevens receiving tens of millions of dollars from organizations like AIPAC.

Like many other progressive candidates, Hong has face intense scrutiny in recent days over her past comments. In a now-deleted tweet from 2021, Hong called for Thanksgiving to be canceled. She’s also support the abolition of ICE and the U.S. Senate.

She’s since walked back the Thanksgiving idea and even claimed it’s her favorite holiday.

During a Thursday afternoon discussion about Hong on CNN, Bloomberg columnist Nia-Malika Henderson called the candidate a “caricature wokeism” and claimed her rise was worrying Democrats.

“I think this is sort of exhibit A, B, C, whatever, of why Bernie Sanders and AOC haven’t endorsed her,” Henderson said. “She’s not a very strong candidate. There’s sort of a wacky approach,I think that she takes to this. You know, she’s sort of a caricature of wokeism, and I think, you know, Democrats are hysterical in Wisconsin about the prospect of her winning.”

Henderson went on to say that Democrats have been trying to push Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley, who’s also running for the Democratic nomination.

“Can they somehow stop her?” Henderson continued. “Because she will lose the general. You know, I’m not here to make predictions, but it’s very hard to see her [winning].”
