CNN Reporter Lauds RFK Jr’s ‘Crowning Achievement’ in MAHA Movement Just 1 Week After His Viral Brawl With CNN Anchor

CNN senior White House reporter Kevin Liptak praised the latest initiative by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. one week after anchor Dana Bash sparred with Kennedy on the network over vaccines.

On Monday morning, Kennedy announced a plan to close a legal loophole that allowed companies to put certain chemicals in their food products without disclosing them to the FDA. As noted in a report from The Washington Post, the designation “generally recognized as safe” (GRAS) allows companies to “self-certify the safety of certain food chemicals or substances.” With Kennedy’s plan, companies will once again be required to notify the federal government when those chemicals are included, and why they are designated at GRAS.

Reacting to the news on CNN, Liptak called it a “crowning achievement” for Kennedy, saying:

What Kennedy is saying is that this loophole that existed at the FDA — which essentially allowed food companies to put chemicals that were generally regarded as safe into the food supply without notifying the FDA — Kennedy is saying that they had exploited that. The food companies had “hijacked the loophole and drove enormous trucks through it.” And what he’s announcing today is that those food companies will now be required to inform the FDA when they are adding these chemicals into the food supply.

And just to describe for you how this all has unfolded over the last 70 years: the FDA in 1958 included in their rules that food companies would be allowed to put these chemicals in if they were generally believed to be safe. And at the time, that included things like table salt, vinegar, black pepper, ordinary food products; but over time, it had evolved to include things like preservatives, stabilizers, some low calorie sweeteners, things that, according to Kennedy, had been permitted to be put into the food supply without any sort of rigorous study. And this is really kind of a crowning achievement for RFK and his efforts to reshape the U.S. food supply to help convince Americans to eat much healthier than they have been.

Kennedy being praised on the network was notable considering his previous appearance on CNN. Just last week, the HHS secretary brawled with Bash in a heated sit-down interview. The interview largely focused on Dr. Anthony Fauci and his guidance during the Covid-19 pandemic.
