CNN’s Cuomo, Pro-Trump Guest Battle Over Kavanaugh: ‘You’re Not Going to Put Those Words Into my Mouth’
CNN’s Chris Cuomo and Women for Trump chairwoman Amy Kremer had a spirited tete-a-tete Monday night when they discussed the firestorm over Brett Kavanaugh‘s Supreme Court nomination.
The discussion focused on the Senate hearing announced for next week, where Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford will both have a chance to give their accounts from the night when the latter was allegedly the victim of a sexual assault carried out by Kavanaugh.
Kremer argued that the hearing shouldn’t be public since it will inevitably become a media spectacle that Democrats will seize upon and weaponize, even though “we’re never going to prove or disprove” Ford’s claims.
Cuomo acknowledged Kremer’s criticisms, though he countered that keeping the hearing open will minimize the chance of it being “engineered for political advantage” since the public will get to judge what happens. This led to a clash between Cuomo and Kremer on whether Democrats mishandled the release of Ford’s allegations — despite her initial requests for anonymity.
“At the end of the day, nothing is going to come of it,” Kremer said. “We’re never going to prove it or disprove it…Congress has these committee hearings all the time, and it’s all for show. It’s a dog and pony show so they can get their sound bites, and then nothing ever comes of it. I think it’s a waste of people’s taxpayer money, and it’s a waste of our time.”
The two sparred about the proper administration of justice and due process. When Cuomo accused Kremer of hold a different standard between Ford’s allegations and the disclosure of various documents on Kavanaugh’s past, Kremer hit back and warned him “you’re not going to put those words into my mouth.”
They debated whether Ford has evidence to back up her claims, and whether Democrats are really using this development to, in Kremer’s words, “gin up the hysteria machine” to derail Kavanaugh.
