Mitch McConnell Missing Person Posters Pop Up in D.C., Seek Whereabouts of ‘Turtle-Like’ Senator

Missing person posters with Sen. Mitch McConnell’s (R-KY) face have popped up around Washington, D.C., as the longtime Kentucky politician has been absent from Capitol Hill for roughly seven weeks.

The posters feature a smiling McConnell in a hospital bed with the headline: “MISSING PERSON” and his name, along with a description: “84 years old 5’9 FEET TURTLE-LIKE.”

“Known for: Blocking something in the Senate. Distinguishing feature: Tortoise-like appearance.”

“If you have any information about his whereabouts, please keep it to yourself,” the poster reads. “He would.”

The prank posters were distributed by the Save America Movement, a political action committee that opposes President Donald Trump, the group told The Independent.

“We put those flyers up because this has gotten absurd,” a Save America Movement spokesperson told the outlet.

“For more than a month now, the senior senator from Kentucky has not cast a vote, has not appeared for the work of the chamber, and has not, in any provable or functional sense, represented the four-and-a-half million people who sent him there.”

The posters popped up as independent journalist Nicholas Ballasy posted video of a senior McConnell aide refusing to answer questions about the senator.

“Sen. Mitch McConnell’s Senior Communications Adviser Robert Steurer wouldn’t respond when asked if McConnell will release a video statement,” he wrote alongside a 25-second clip of Steurer walking away from him.

McConnell was reportedly found unconscious in his D.C. home on June 14, was taken to the hospital via ambulance, and has not been seen on Capitol Hill since.

His office has since released two different photos of the senator as speculation has swirled about his health and debate has raged about his absence — with some Republicans claiming to have spoken to McConnell on the phone, and others insisting on “proof of life.”

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear (D) has sent repeated requests that McConnell account to Kentucky voters, but McConnell has kept mum and let Beshear “stew in his own juice,” one veteran journalist told CNN.

Al Cross, a longtime Kentucky reporter, said McConnell “is just being a little cranky and pugnacious.”
