‘Cut Our Ties Now!’ Shermichael Singleton Says GOP Should Replace ‘Morally Bankrupt’ Max Miller

CNN commentator and Republican strategist Shermichael Singleton urged the GOP to completely cut ties with “morally bankrupt” Rep. Max Miller (R-OH), who has been accused of abusing his wife and daughter.

Singleton joined Kasie Hunt on CNN’s The Arena on Tuesday where he added his voice to a growing list on the right calling for Miller to resign.

Emily Moreno, the daughter of Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-OH), has accused her husband Miller of physically abusing her and her daughter, claiming he pointed a gun at her head and doused her with scalding hot water. Miller has denied the allegations.

Singleton said:

Absolutely he should resign. I have no reason to doubt Sen. Moreno’s thoughts about his former son-in-law. As a husband, as a father to a daughter, I don’t think any father would would make up lies about what his daughter has told him. I don’t doubt him at all.

That said, sure, it’s a R-plus five district. You can replace this guy, Kasie. It doesn’t make sense at all for the NRCC to spend $15-20 million to save a seat with a guy who’s very evidently morally bankrupt. It’s just not necessary. It doesn’t speak volumes about our party. And I know most Republicans, who are good conservative people, would never, particularly in the South, would never want somebody like this to represent them.

And so, in my opinion, my advice, cut our ties now, allow the local officials there to find somebody else to replace him.

Sen. Moreno has accused Miller of putting his family through the “seventh ring of hell.”

“What my daughter has been through, what my wife is going through, this is the truly the seventh level of hell,” he told reporters this week. “This has been a horrific experience for my entire family. My daughter specifically did not want this to be out in public.”
