Hunter Biden Gets Emotional Retelling His Intervention and How his Father Chased Him Down the Driveway

Hunter Biden became emotional as he recalled how his father, President Joe Biden, held an intervention for him while he was in the throes of his alcoholism and crack cocaine addiction.

In his interview with CBS’ Anthony Mason, Hunter spoke of how his life spiraled into a 4-year nosedive of substance abuse after the death of his brother, Beau. He told Mason that as he reached the low point of his life, he was invited to a family dinner at one point, just to find out when he got there that it was an intervention.

“I looked and said ‘not a chance. No way,'” Biden said. “I literally began to run up the driveway.”

“And your father chased you?” Mason asked.

“Yes, and grabbed me in a hug,” Hunter said. “He just cried and said, ‘I don’t know what to do. I don’t know what to do.'”

“I thought ‘I need to figure out a way to tell him that I’m going to do something, so that I can go take another hit,'” Biden recalled. “It’s the only thing I could think. I don’t know of a force more powerful than my family’s love except addiction. I said I was going to get help, booked the next flight to Los Angeles, and decided that I was going completely disappear forever.”

The conversation moved on from there to a interview Hunter gave to The New Yorker for a 2019 article whose premise questioned whether his addictions would damage his father’s presidential ambitions. Hunter Biden said he wanted to tell his own life story before it could be used against his father, and then he described his efforts to turn his life around after meeting his future wife, Melissa Cohen.
