Jasmine Crockett Says Americans ‘Can’t Afford a Home’ and ‘Food’ Because of Trump’s ‘Failed Immigration Policies’

Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) has claimed that President Donald Trump’s immigration policies are fueling Americans’ struggles with affording housing and food.

Crockett, appearing with Major Garrett on CBS News’ America Decides this week, was asked Crockett if she and her fellow Democrats are “getting something wrong in interpreting where the public” stands when it comes to Trump’s mass deportations.

Garrett noted that most polling shows a slim majority support the effort.

Crockett dismissed the polling as “stagnant” and argued better and more nuanced results would come from focus groups, noting she’s heard complaints from constituents that very morning.

“One thing I can tell you, is that if you sit down and you say, ‘Are you okay with your grocery prices? Are you OK with the fact that housing prices are going up?’ and you start to connect how important it is for us to have immigrants that are contributing to our country in this way, then, people may start to shift,” she said.

Democrats, she added, have to do more to “connect the dots” between inflation issues and immigration. She claimed deportations are fueling high prices because it’s creating a worker deficit in areas like the hospitality industry.

“We have to do better to connect the dots and let people know the reason you can’t afford a home is because of these failed immigration policies,” Crockett said. “The reason you are not going to be able to afford your food is because of these failed immigration policies. And the same can go for hospitality industries where we have so many of those in the hospitality industry that are saying they do not have the workers that they need right now.”
