RNC Co-Chair Lara Trump Refuses to Say How Much Donor Cash Is Going to Her Father-in-Law’s Legal Bills: ‘Wait and See’

Republican National Committee Co-Chair Lara Trump dodged a question about how much money is being steered to her father-in-law to help pay his voluminous legal bills.

Former President Donald Trump was convicted in New York last week on 34 counts of falsifying business records. He is expected to appeal the verdict, the sentencing for which is scheduled for July 11. Trump is also under criminal indictment in three other jurisdictions. Moreover, he is currently appealing a $500 million civil fraud judgment against him.

Donations to Trump began pouring in after the conviction, prompting his campaign website to crash. The campaign boasted that it raised nearly $53 million in the 24 hours following the guilty verdict. Republicans decried the trial as a political persecution while also claiming it will clinch the White House for Trump.

Appearing on CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday, Lara Trump boasted to host Kasie Hunt of her father-in-law’s fundraising haul.

“What we understand is that when somebody donates even $1, Kasie, to a campaign, they are going to ultimately turn out and vote for that person,” she said. “They are bought in.”

Hunt followed up by raising a matter of concern about some Republican donors, whose money the former president has used to pay legal fees. Last year, Trump reportedly spent $50 million in campaign cash on his many legal expenses. In March, Lara Trump insisted that the RNC would not pay the former president’s legal fees, only for that to be proven false a week later.

“How much of the money that being raised that has been raised is gonna be used to pay for the former president’s legal fees?” the host asked.

“Well, everybody has an option whenever they donate to our joint fundraising agreement to opt out of it,” Trump replied. “It is a very small percentage of the money that we take in. And so, I would have to say, we’ll wait and see what is necessary in the future. Obviously, this has been a very costly thing – not just for Donald Trump and his campaign, but for America.”
