Trump Says Media ‘Ought To Be Ashamed of Themselves’ for ‘Justifying’ Murder of Charlie Kirk
President Donald Trump declared on Thursday that the media “ought to be ashamed of themselves” upon being asked what he thought about “the media that justify the murder of Charlie Kirk.”
Asked, “What do you think about the media that justify the murder of Charlie Kirk?” the president replied, “I think it’s terrible. They ought to be ashamed of themselves. It’s terrible.”
After another reporter questioned, “Why haven’t they found the shooter yet, Mr. President? Are you concerned that it’s been 24 hours?” Trump responded, “Well, I hear they’re making big progress, and we’ll have to see what happens.”
“Do you have any indication of the shooter’s motivation, sir?” the reporter pressed.
“I have an indication, yeah, but we’ll let you know about that later,” Trump concluded.
MSNBC parted with senior political analyst Matthew Dowd on Wednesday after Dowd blamed Kirk for his own assassination just moments after the Turning Point USA founder was shot.
“During our breaking news coverage of the shooting of Charlie Kirk, Matthew Dowd made comments that were inappropriate, insensitive and unacceptable,” said MSNBC president Rebecca Kutler in a statement. “We apologize for his statements, as has he. There is no place for violence in America, political or otherwise.”
TMZ also received backlash after laughter and applause could be heard in the background of their coverage of Kirk’s assassination.
The media outlet apologized for the “tone deaf laughter” in a video statement on Wednesday evening, insisting that it was merely “horrible timing.”
