Tampa Bay Times political editor Adam Smith got lots of attention on Twitter today when he said Congressman Alan Grayson called him a “shitting robot.”
Good talk w @AlanGrayson: "R u some kind of sh*ttng robot?! U go around sh*tting on people?!" he inquired, loudly

Obviously, people wondered what the possible context for such a statement would be, and we got our answer hours later.
Smith had conducted a phone interview earlier with Grayson to grill him about his offshore investments, but Grayson vehemently insisted he did nothing wrong. Smith found a smidgen of possible hypocrisy because of how Grayson has railed against the rich evading taxes.
Grayson told Smith, “You want to write shit about it, and you can’t because not a single dollar of taxes has been avoided.”
And when he was asked about the appropriateness of the entire arrangement, that’s when Grayson really let loose with the profanity:
“Are you f——- kidding? I set up a fund that might solicit foreign investors….I have no present intention of soliciting foreign investors,” he said. “Your perception issue is bull—-.”
“This is even worse than Grayson’s girlfriend might run for congress 18 months from now,” referring to a recent Politico story attributed to no named sources. “This is a whole nother level of bull—-….Are are you some kind of sh—–g robot? You go around sh—-g on on people?”
Oh, and on an unrelated note, Grayson is considering a run for Senate.
