A vocal anti-LGBT pastor spoke out against homosexuality, abortion and a treasure trove of other sinful behaviors at the National Religious Liberties Conference over the weekend. Among other things, he argued that God would judge the United States for allowing Albus Dumbledore-like mentors to convert the nation’s youth to homosexuality (if not molest them).
The Reverend Kevin Swanson (no relation to Parks and Recreation‘s Ron Swanson) told attendees at Freedom Conference 2015 in Des Moines, Iowa that America should repent its fascination with the Harry Potter book and film series (not to mention the How to Train Your Dragon films). Why? Because, like Sodom and Gomorrah, God will smite thee if thou doesn’t.
“America, repent that Dumbledore emerged as a homosexual mentor for Harry Potter,” Swanson exclaimed. “That Hiccup’s mentor in How to Train Your Dragon emerged as a homosexual himself.”
That wasn’t all Swanson was angry about at the National Religious Liberties Conference. In addition to the disastrous effects these LGBT fictional characters were purportedly having on future generations of Americans, the pastor admitted that he was prepared to go the distance in combating homosexuality. Even if, God forbid, his own son were to get married to another man.
“Sons are rebelling, hanging out with homosexuals and getting married. And the parents are invited. What would you do if that was the case?” he asked the audience.
“Here’s what I would do,” said Swanson. “I’d sit in cow manure and I’d spread it all over my body. That’s what I would do. And I’m not kidding. I’m not laughing.”
“I’m grieving,” he began gesticulating. “I’m mourning! I’m pointing out the problem!”
This isn’t the first time Swanson’s anti-LGBT views have become national news. In 2013, he blamed the disastrous floods in Colorado on abortion, homosexuality, marijuana and just about every other supposedly sinful thing he could name.
