Blogger for Conspiracy Site Gateway Pundit Arrested After Appearing to Assault Student

Far right blogger Lucian Wintrich — who holds White House press credentials and writes for the conspiracy-mongering site Gateway Pundit — was arrested for appearing to assault a student during his speaking event at the University of Connecticut.

Wintrich was giving a speech titled “It’s OK to be White” on behalf of UConn’s College Republican club when protesters began disrupting the event by chanting “Go home Nazi!” The blogger was then forced to stop his speaking gig, which gave a student the opportunity to take what appear to be his speech notes.

Upon noticing the woman walking away with his papers, Wintrich shot up the stairs after her, grabbed her arm, and proceeded to wrestle her down in the middle of the auditorium.

Several other bystanders quickly jumped in and broke the fight up. At that point, law enforcement stepped in to arrest Wintrich and escort him off the premises. Police reportedly then deployed a form of smoke to remove all the remaining people in the building.

According to Hartford Courant reporter Rebecca Lurye, Wintrich was taken to another area away from students, put in a squad car, and driven off campus. However, Lurve notes that several students attempted to chase after the squad car but were not able to catch it.

Mediaite has reached out to Wintrich regarding the incident and his arrest, but has not received a response.

Wintrich’s blog Gateway Pundit is widely known as one of the most pro-Trump sites, as they often publish wild conspiracy theories targeting his political enemies. Their most recent attack has been aimed at the women — and the Washington Post for reporting their stories — who have come forward to accuse Alabama GOP Senate candidate Roy Moore of sexual misconduct and predatory behavior.
