Reporters have picked up on new indications that Joe Biden will soon make an official confirmation that he will jump into the 2020 presidential election.
An unnamed Democratic lawmaker told The Hill that he recently had a phone call with Biden where the former vice president seemed to come closer than ever before to saying he will challenge President Donald Trump for the White House. The Hill’s source says that Biden made the call to ask the unnamed lawmaker for support, and discussed strategies he could use throughout his possible campaign.
“I’m giving it a shot,” Biden said, according to the lawmaker who asked for anonymity because of the call’s sensitivity.
Biden is frequently considered one of the most viable potential candidates to go up against Trump in 2020, and there have been a plethora of signs that he’s interested in joining the race. The Hill notes that Biden spokesman Bill Russo is dismissing the idea that the vice president has made his final decision, and yet, the framework for his candidacy has been mostly established by now, and he is believed to be talking to key constituents about how they’ll back his run.
Coincidentally, Biden dropped a hint about his future plans on Tuesday when he spoke before a firefighters convention after taking the stage to cheers of “Run, Joe, run!” Biden thanked the crowd for their energy, and he drew further applause when he said “Save it a little longer, I might need it in a few weeks.”
