The Common Core curriculum initiative has both its supporters and detractors, and its detractors have many legitimate arguments against the program (too much federal oversight into state educational standards, too few methods to fix endemic problems in America’s educational system, etc). But apparently, according to a Florida state representative, the worst thing about the Common Core is that it will turn your kids gay. Not only that, it will encourage your kids to be as gay as gay-ingly possible.
“They are promoting, as hard as they can, any youth that is interested in the LGBT agenda,” Rep. Charles Van Zant (R-Keystone Heights) thundered during an educational conference held back in March.
“These people, that will now receive $220 million from the state of Florida unless this is stopped, will promote double mindedness in state education and attract every one of your children to become as homosexual as they possibly can.”
(Sidenote: I went to a school that was extremely gay-friendly, and I’m still straight. Does that mean I’ve failed my homo classes? Aw, man, I think I just disappointed my Asian parents.)
