Joe Scarborough brought back an oft-heard theory among professional Trump readers on Tuesday, reprising the idea that our reality show president was secretly planning to “start a TV network” and “make billions.”
The idea of Trump TV goes back to the 2016 campaign when conventional wisdom held that Trump would lose to Hillary Clinton and take revenge in the form of a far-right television station that would cater to his base.
For JScar, the idea specifically came back in regards to Trump’s (sort of) decision to end DACA, the popular Obama-era executive order which shields many children of illegal aliens from deportation. Scarborough said — like so many other Trump moves — it catered to his 33% rather than seek to build consensus.
And in the words of Marco Rubio, he knows exactly what he’s doing.
“It seems like everything he does, it plays to the hard 33% and the only rational answer to this is this is a man who wants to get out of the White House and start a media company that just feeds on that 33%,” said Scarborough. “After a while you’ve just got to say, it’s not a mistake. He knows what he’s doing. He’ll take his 33%, start a TV network, make billions.”
Evidence would suggest the idea has appeal to Trump, even as president, he has already launched his own quasi-news program online which has variously featured his daughter-in-law Lara Trump and former CNN contributor Kayleigh Mcenany.
