Kevin Hart Says There’s No Way He’s Hosting Oscars in Defiant Interview: ‘I’m Over It’

Comedian Kevin Hart appears to have little interest in addressing the controversy that got him booted from hosting the Oscars. And he’s certainly not planning on accepting an offer to host the shows again.

Appearing on ABC’s Good Morning America Wednesday, co-host Michael Strahan repeatedly asked the movie star to comment on his apology or controversy, to which Hart replied multiple times “I’m over it.”

“There’s no more conversation about it … I’m over that, I’m over the moment,” Hard added saying that he had apologized multiple times roughly 10 years ago when the homophobic comments and jokes first happened.

“I’m not giving no more explanation of who I am,” he added. “I’m just done.”

Hart was named as host of the 2019 Academy Awards show on December 4th of last year but stepped down amid the controversy of homophobic jokes. Last week Hart appeared on the Ellen Degeneres show and found a sympathetic host.

During his hit on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Hart notably did not apologize and drew ire from many who noted that he was playing the victim card. Ellen also drew criticism for ostensibly giving him a pass and suggesting that if he doesn’t host, he will let “the trolls win.” Shortly after, reports have floated that ABC is open to Hart returning hosting the Oscars, which have flagged in viewership over the past few years.

But CNN’s Don Lemon offered an emotional and thoughtful rebuttal to Hart’s indifferent and indignant reaction, calling the plight of gay and black children a matter of “life and death,” asking Hart to become an ally to a group of young Americans who live in danger due to cultural homophobia and backlash.

Which leads us to a 10-plus minute segment in which an obstinate Kevin Hart stonewalls Strahan’s tireless effort to find any contrition or charm in the potential Oscar host. Strahan gets an A for effort here, but the reclamation of Hart’ reputation seems to have stalled on fourth down.
