Obama Makes Awkward ‘Freudian Slip’ at Tyler Perry’s House
Before he taped an episode of the WTF podcast in Marc Maron’s garage on Friday, President Barack Obama headed over to Tyler Perry’s house for a Democratic National Committee fundraiser Thursday night. And according to this report from The Hill, the president inadvertently cracked up the room with a telling slip of the tongue:
“We should be reforming our criminal justice system in such a way that we are not incarcerating nonviolent offenders in ways that renders them incapable of getting a job after they leave office,” Obama said.
The star-studded audience broke into laughter and applause, and the president admitted he made a “Freudian slip.”
“Little slip of the tongue there. Little Freudian slip,” he said. “Tyler is going to give me a job once I leave.”
Obama recalled that President Clinton once joked that the White House “is the crown jewel of the federal penitentiary system,” prompting more laughter from the crowd.
The president also spoke about the deadly mass shooting in Charleston, South Carolina, saying, “To see such a horrific event unfold like that is particularly shocking and it’s a reminder that we’ve got a lot of work to do.”
In addition to Perry, celebrities who paid between $2,500 to $33,400 to hear Obama speak included Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner and actress January Jones, former NBA player Jason Collins and Netflix head Ted Sarandos.
