See The Very Trump-Themed Promo for the Next Purge Film

Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions seem to be making a statement about President Trump, based on the promotional image they went with to gin up interest in the upcoming installment to The Purge franchise.

The latest chapter of the film series will be called The First Purge, and Universal Horror’s Twitter account sent out this picture of a hat which very much resembles Trump’s “Make America Great Again” red caps.

For the uninitiated, The Purge series explores a dystopian alternate reality where the United States holds an annual nationwide event in which all crime, including murder, is legalized for 12 hours. “The Purge” is endorsed by The New Founding Fathers of America, a party of political extremists who use the event to maintain their power in the government.

Based on Universal’s synopsis, The First Purge is a prequel that will look at how the orgy of violence and human vices became accepted as a national tradition:

“To push the crime rate below one percent for the rest of the year, the New Founding Fathers of America (NFFA) test a sociological theory that vents aggression for one night in one isolated community. But when the violence of oppressors meets the rage of the marginalized, the contagion will explode from the trial-city borders and spread across the nation.”

This would not be the first time the franchise has tapped into the political tensions gripping America. The previous film in the series was called The Purge: Election Year, and whereas Trump’s campaign slogan was Make America Great Again, the movie’s tagline was “Keep America Great.”
