Skip Bayless Expresses Support for Kaepernick in Debut Show: ‘This Needed to Be Said’
On the debut edition of Skip Bayless‘s Fox Sports 1 show Undisputed, the broadcaster spoke out in support of Colin Kaepernick‘s National Anthem protest.
“The statement needed to be made,” Bayless said. “Because I do know this as a white guy: We have an outrageous problem in this country. Too many black men…have died at the hands of policemen — defenseless black men — without penalty.”
Bayless’s new partner, former NFL tight end Shannon Sharpe, agreed and accused some in the media of attempting to distort the intent of Kaepernick’s protest.
“It was just so mind blowing to me how they tried to spin this,” Sharpe said. “They were like ‘He’s no Dr. King. He’s no Muhammad Ali.’ But you’re talking about in the context of how they’re viewed now. Everybody didn’t like Dr. King in the sixties. They definitely didn’t like Cassius Clay.”
