One is the beleaguered attorney general. The other is the embattled EPA chief who has been dealing with daily scandals.
CNN reported this afternoon that President Donald Trump tossed out the possibility of replacing Attorney General Jeff Sessions — who he has been upset with for months over his recusal from the Russia probe — with Scott Pruitt, who is currently dealing with a swath of controversies and scandals that have besieged him and his agency.
“He was 100% still trying to protect Pruitt because Pruitt is his fill-in for Sessions,” one of CNN’s sources said.
Meanwhile, the president continues to stand by Pruitt even as the EPA head continues to generate negative headlines, telling reporters today on Air Force One that Pruitt is doing a “great job” and that he’s heard different things regarding Pruitt’s ethical misconduct.
Asked if he wants to replace Pruitt, Pres Trump said no – that Pruitt is doing a great job where he is. On the allegations of ethical misconduct, Pres said he's heard different versions of it and would have to take a look and make a determination.
