In our first post about the two-segment conversation between former DNC chair Donna Brazile and Tucker Carlson — we took note of the unusual deference that Carlson showed to his guest. But in the second part of the conversation the Tucker Carlson we know and love (well, maybe not love) was back in form.
Carlson and Brazile mixed it up over the DNC chair leaking a debate question to the Hillary Clinton campaign in advance of a face-off with Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT). The host pressed Brazile. This was her response:
I said last year that CNN never provided us with any questions. CNN never gave us anything in advance. What I did say, what I have said in the past, and what I say in this book, is that as an officer of the DNC — and I know Wikileaks gave everybody certain questions in certain emails — but as an officer of the DNC, I sought to expand the number of debates. And I wanted to make sure that we had diverse voices, and we covered issues that had not been discussed in previous debates…What I sought to do, Tucker, was to ensure that we had these issues on the table, and I didn’t want our candidates blindsided. That’s what I admitted to.
Carlson — with his trademark sneer and an over-the-top laugh — let Brazile know that he wasn’t buying any of that.
“That’s the greatest spin I’ve ever heard!” Carlson said. “That’s so good! You should do this for a living! That is hilarious.”
Whatever quibbles one may have with Carlson’s style, he was on the mark here calling out Brazile for spin. Brazile, overall, took Carlson off his game. But this exchange belonged to Tucker.
