We’ve posted, in the past, about New Jersey Governor Chris Christie‘s possible future as a sports talk show host. A passionate Dallas Cowboys and New York Mets fan, Christie has shown himself to be adept in the arena, firing off the hot takes regularly as a guest host on the Boomer & Carton show on WFAN in New York.
Wednesday, he took his aspirations to be the next Mike Francesa to the small screen for a panel discussion on SportsNet New York’s Baseball Night in New York. As part of his appearance, the governor participated in a segment called “Let’s Overreact,” whose objective is to yield super-duper scorching takes. Sure enough, Christie delivered one.
Christie was asked to respond to the Phillies posting the famous Tug McGraw mantra “Ya Gotta Believe” in the hallway of their spring training facility, given that those words have long been associated with the Mets.
Let’s overreact, governor!
“The Phillies suck,” Christie said. “Let’s just start with that. They’re from Philadelphia. They’re an awful team. They’re an angry, bitter fan base and it’s not safe for civilized people to go to Citizens Bank Park if you want to root for the other team. Ya gotta believe what? Ya gotta believe we’re awful people!”
The Phillies’ response was swift and merciless.
We love our fans and appreciate their unwavering support as we “bridge” to a bright future!
