Mike Rowe, the host of CNN’s Somebody’s Gotta Do It, took to Facebook yesterday to assure people that, despite the rumors, he is definitely not the guy who was caught on camera robbing a bank in Oregon.
The confusion began after a man walked into a bank in Medford earlier this week, and threatened people with a gun while demanding cash. When police released surveillance camera pictures of the man and asked for help from the public on Facebook, they received an overwhelming amount of comments from people who thought that the thief was Rowe’s dead ringer.
While the police department jokingly said they issued a warrant for Rowe’s arrest, news of the allegations made their way to the man himself. While Rowe seemed amused and he agreed he shared a resemblance to the guy, he took to his own Facebook and explained that he was in Kansas City at the time of the robbery.
“I looked at it and I laughed and I said, ‘Those guys have a great sense of humor,’” Rowe said on Good Morning America. “But I can’t deny there is an uncanny resemblance, so I just fired off a quick little missive saying, ‘Hey, for what it’s worth, I’m in Kansas, so be on the lookout for somebody who’s shorter and less attractive.’”
Medford Police eventually put out another post on Facebook, where they accepted Rowe’s alibi, but also encouraged the public to keep contributing tips and look out for someone wearing a “Mike Rowe mask.”
