Woman Threatens To Kill Everyone On Flight After She’s Caught Smoking In Bathroom
Do not try to sneak a smoke on a domestic flight, folks. Just wait until you land.
A 24-year-old woman was arrested over the weekend after she threatened to “f*cking kill” every single person on the flight after she was caught smoking in the bathroom and tampering with the smoke detector. The flight generally lasts less than 90 minutes.
On a Southwest flight from Portland to Sacramento, Valerie Curbelo was ordered back to her seat by flight attendants when she absolutely lost it. She yelled at one attendant as she gathered her things and moved into the aisle.
“I swear, if you don’t f*cking land, I will f*cking kill everybody on this f*cking plane!” Curbelo shouted.
According to the airline, the outburst occurred after the crew caught Curbelo smoking in the bathroom. Below is the statement, obtained by the Sacramento Bee:
“Our reports from flight attendants indicate a customer violated federal laws by both smoking onboard an aircraft and by tampering with a smoke detector in an aircraft restroom. Our Crew enforced the regulation and that was followed by the passenger outburst,” Southwest said. “The safety of our crew and passengers is our top priority and we take all threats seriously.”
Curbelo spoke with CBS13’s Marc Thompson in a jailhouse interview. She claimed that she snuck a smoke in the bathroom because of “the anxiety.” Curbelo, however, couldn’t point to anything she was anxious about and had no explanation for why she blew up on the flight. Asked why she said she’d kill everyone, Curbelo merely said she didn’t know and that “it was not me.”
Per the Sacramento Bee, she is being held on $75,000 bail and has been charged with three felony counts of threats to commit a crime resulting in death.
