‘Demon Hunter’ GOP Gov Nominee Challenges Dem Opponent to Debate — But There’s a Catch

Victor Marx, the controversial GOP nominee for governor of Colorado, challenged his opponent this week to a single general election debate, but with a catch that they do so without a moderator.

Marx made the challenge to Attorney General Phil Weiser (D) in a video clip on Tuesday, saying, “I wanna make an announcement right now regarding the debate. Here in the general, I’m only doing one debate. That is my strategy. It’s what it was in the primary; it’s what’s gonna be in the general. There are tons of media outlets, TV, all wanting to do debates, but I’m doing one, and it’s different.”

“And Phil, I hope your team is watching, because we reached out to you — I did, personally — didn’t hear back. But I’m challenging you to a debate with no moderator. This is gonna be a time for us to actually tell the good folks of Colorado what we’re gonna do — not make empty promises, but what we are gonna do, and show them how,” Marx added in the clip.

Kyle Clark, who helped moderate the June GOP gubernatorial debate Marx participated in, dropped a deep dive on Tuesday into Marx’s ministry.

“Victor Marx’s $7.5M/yr ministry pitches his exorcisms as the solution for homosexuality, murder, even low self-esteem. I reviewed 100+ hours of Marx’s sermons and speaking gigs for an in-depth look at the demon hunter who wants to be Colorado’s Governor,” Clark wrote on social media, previewing his reporting. He added:

Minutes after Marx banished 11 demons from the co-host named Stacey, she cheerfully helped pitch his $99 spiritual warfare course.

Marx’s demon deliverance ministry appears to have started decades ago when he says prison guards left him alone in a cell with a 15-year-old girl who spoke to him as Satan.

When I visited Marx’s training center, his team politely offered to perform an exorcism on me. I declined.

Perhaps one reason Marx wishes to forgo a moderator during a general election debate is that Clark’s grilling of Marx’s colorful and heavily exaggerated past went viral and grabbed national headlines.

Clark pressed Marx hard on his past claims, which include that he killed a man at age seven.

“You claim that you’ve been all around the world, armed to the teeth, rescuing women and children from captivity, that you stopped human smugglers at the Mexico border and made them pay a price, that you, as a civilian, called in a U.S. Military airstrike that killed 70 ISIS fighters, that you were the first American into Gaza during the war with Israel, that you’ve done 150 high-risk missions and every one has been a success. You told me last week that it’s all true and that you don’t need to prove it to anyone. But you’re talking to voters now. How should voters decide whether you’ve lived one of the most extraordinary lives in human history, or whether you’re a liar and a fraud?” Clark asked during the debate.

Marx initially dodged the question and returned to attacking his opponents on stage before Clark demanded, “Sir, how much of your time do you plan to burn before you answer? Answer the question of whether you tell the truth.”

Marx eventually answered, saying, “Well, simply go back. I have 20 years of videos and documentation and people. We just had our head of security in Iraq call in a video today. The proof is just in people and what we document. I can’t help it if I’ve had an extraordinary life. I’m an ordinary fellow, and starting from my childhood all the way to now, me standing up on a stage running for governor.”

“Reagan, I said I was going to talk about you. This little dog — she’s going to go bite you right now, Kyle. She was in Syria and Iraq,” Marx insisted, pointing to a small dog next to him.

“So is she lying, too?” insisted the candidate, again pointing to the dog.
