‘Don of Dung:’ Portrait of Trump Made with Manure Sells for Big Bucks

A Canadian artist has immortalized U.S. President Donald Trump in horse manure for a portrait that sold after just one day on the market.

CTV reported this week:

A portrait of U.S. President Donald Trump painted with horse manure by a B.C. artist has sold for $1,800. Vancouver Island artist Wendy Chartrand created the piece using what she calls “an appropriate medium,” saying it reflects her feelings about U.S. politics. The painting, titled “The Don of Dung,” was featured at the Sooke Fine Arts Show, where it sold in just one day.

“I think that sometimes Canadians get tired of all the goings-on south of the border there, with their government,” Chartrand told CTV News. “It gets a bit frustrating, and this was kind of my way of expressing my feelings.”

The report explained how Chartrand mixed the manure from horses on her property into a pliable medium.

“After watering it down, mashing it up and straining it into a makeshift form of watercolour, she undertook what she acknowledges was a smelly process requiring her to wear a mask or work outdoors,” the report said.

Chartrand finished the painting with a lacquer, “which prevents smudging and neutralizes the odor.”

“It’s just good to laugh at stuff sometimes,” Chartrand said. “You can’t do anything about it often, so you might as well laugh.”

Chartrand said she had no idea who bought her artwork “but would love to find out so she can thank them,” adding she was “amazed” at how quickly it sold.

Chartrand told The Langley Advance Times, “I was surprised, and I was really happy because I didn’t want it in my house.”

“I was upset about the way things were going and comments about the ‘51st state’, tariffs and even the Gordie Howe Bridge,” she told the Times.

As to what’s next for British Columbia’s celebrated artist, Chartrand gave a hint:

“Putin, but spelt P-O-O-T-I-N,” she said. “But I have a feeling that one won’t be as popular.”
