Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE) boasted that Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) is running into a “brick wall” in his quest for the speaker’s gavel ahead of a second vote on Jordan’s candidacy Wednesday afternoon.
“Jordan is headed for defeat. He’ll fight to death likely, and we won’t let off. Their tactics angered us. They’re harassing our spouses even,” explained Bacon. “Jordan hit a brick wall.”

Bacon’s wife, Angie Bacon, has received anonymous text messages asking her why her husband was not supporting Jordan, and promising that his opposition would sink his political career.
“Your husband will not hold any political office ever again. What a disappoint [sic] and failure he is,” wrote the anonymous supporter of Jordan’s.

Twenty Republicans voted against Jordan during a vote on Tuesday, and he lost a few more members of his party during Wednesday’s vote. Former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) was ejected from his office when just 8 Republicans voted with the entirety of the Democratic caucus to strip him of his title.
After McCarthy’s removal, Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) won an intra-caucus election over Jordan, but dropped out when a group of holdouts threatened to vote against him on the House floor.
Addressing the situation on CNN Monday, Bacon said “I can’t abide by the fact a small group violated the rules to get what they wanted, so now I’m supposed to play by the rules.”
“So I think we gotta have consequences, and we have to stand up to this. That’s what Americans do,” he added.
