NBC News Called Out For Not ID’ing Woman During CPAC Interview As Convicted J6 Rioter Who Threatened to Kill Nancy Pelosi

NBC News is being called out for failing to identify an interview subject as a convicted Jan. 6 rioter who threatened to kill former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).

The omission was brought to light by media watchdog group Media Matters. The NBC interview recorded at this week’s Conservative Political Action Conference was about the Alabama Supreme Court’s ruling that frozen embryos should be considered actual children.

The reporter interviewed just one woman at CPAC, Dawn Bancroft from Doylestown, Pennsylvania, who said she did not support the ruling that will restrict access to vitro fertilization in the state.

“Why would they stop doing that for people who are having difficulties becoming pregnant? That’s disturbing to me. And that’s no abortion, I’m pro-life,” Bancroft said on camera.

Although no other women were interviewed on camera the reporter claimed, “Women we spoke to were in full support of IVF.”

Media Matters took issue with NBC’s failure to label Bancroft as a convicted Jan. 6 rioter who served 60 days in prison for threatening Pelosi, despite having reported on her guilty plea and sentencing in 2022.

According to the NBC News report, prosecutors presented a video Bancroft made on the grounds of the Capitol, wearing a red MAGA hat and saying she was searching for Pelosi “to shoot her in the frickin’ brain.”

Prosecutors called her comments about killing Pelosi “‘Among the most graphic statements uttered by any rioter on Capitol grounds that day,’ but acknowledged there was no evidence she intended to carry it out,” NBC reported at the time.

Bancroft pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol building.

In her piece, Media Matters reporter Helena Hind wrote, “NBC has every right to interview CPAC attendees for its political stories. However, the network has a duty to disclose to its audience whether those attendees violently attacked the Capitol and publicly called for the murder of Democrats.”
