Senate Republican Goes On Wild Anti-CDC Rant About Monkeypox: ‘Don’t Have to Worry’ If You’re Not a ‘Homosexual Man’

A Senate Republican railed against the CDC on Tuesday in a wild rant about how the agency dealt with the Covid-19 and Monkeypox outbreaks, at one point suggesting only homosexual men needed to worry about the latter.

Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS) appeared on Newsmax on Tuesday morning for a wide-ranging discussion that touched on cabinet confirmations and a host of other developments coming from the nation’s capital. At one point in the conversation, Marshall — who’s also a physician — was asked for his reaction to the recent spate of resignations within the CDC. President Donald Trump’s administration also fired CDC Director Susan Monarez after she refused to resign.

In his response, Marshall trashed the agency for its handling of the Covid-19 outbreak and the much smaller outbreak of Monkeypox:

The crew that quit here are the folks that were standing right beside, arm-in-arm with Anthony Fauci delivering lie after lie about the COVID vaccine. See you fast forward to the monkeypox. This is the same group of so-called experts that told the entire country we should live in fear of Monkeypox, but failed to tell us that unless you’re a homosexual man, you don’t have to worry about this at all, that monkeypox is a sexually transmitted disease.

The group of people that quit here have made an entire career studying sexually transmitted viruses like hepatitis and HIV and Monkeypox… All they have is a hammer and they see every problem, you know, is a nail to them. That’s all they want to talk about, is vaccines. It’s time to maybe flip the agenda and that’s why, this is why President Trump chose Bobby Kennedy Jr. Bobby Kennedy Jr. is a disruptor. We need to shift the focus of the CDC from immunizations to treating these chronic problems, preventing the chronic diseases that 60% of Americans have.

Although the virus can be transmitted via close contact, it is not explicitly an STD. During the outbreak of 2022 and 2023, however, the majority of cases were a result of sexual transmission. A large portion of those infected were gay men, although not exclusively, prompting a wave of hysteria reminiscent of the HIV crisis.
