Trump Gets Absolutely Pummeled in New CNN Poll Showing Him at a Dismal 31% Approval on Economy and 35% Overall

President Donald Trump’s approval on the economy hit a new low of 31% in a CNN poll that showed a majority have been feeling the squeeze from the Iran war.

Ahead of the president’s address to the nation on the status of Iran on Wednesday evening, CNN dropped a new survey, conducted by SSRS, which highlighted the increasing economic pain Americans are feeling. According to the poll, Trump’s approval dropped to just 31% when it comes to the economy. Overall, his approval stands at just 35%.

The poll was conducted March 26-30 among more than 1,200 respondents. It has a sampling error of 3.2%.

More than 60% of Americans said rising gas prices has led to personal financial hardships, with 15% of those saying those hardships have been “severe.” According to AAA, the average national gas price has jumped to over $4 a gallon for the first time since 2022. Before the U.S. and Israel launched strikes against Iran, the national average was sitting below $3.

Economic concerns go beyond gas prices, however. On inflation, 27% said they approve of Trump’s handling. That’s down from 44% a year ago.

More than 60% said they have made financial cutbacks recently, and more than 40% said they have cut back significantly on their driving amid increasingly high gas costs.

He’s also seen cracks in his support among Republicans.

According to the CNN data, Republicans who “strongly” approve of his performance in the White House dropped from 52% in January, down to 43% this month.

In the survey, 40% named an economic issue as their top issue, and more than 60% said Trump is not paying enough attention to the country’s top problems.

“Everything is so expensive,” one Republican told the pollsters. “Makes it very difficult to do anything other than work and go home. Trips to the grocery store are ridiculous! Between gas and grocery prices, we are poor!”
