President Donald Trump will not be going to Mar-a-Lago this Christmas amid a partial government shutdown.
ABC’s Ben Seigel tweeted out White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders‘ statement on the matter early Saturday evening.
“Due to the shutdown, President Trump will remain in Washington, D.C. and the First Lady will return from Florida so they can spend Christmas together,” Sanders said.
CNN’s Jim Acosta also reported the news.
On Friday, Mrs.Trump and her son left Washington for Mar-a-Lago.
Her spox defended FLOTUS’s decision to travel without the president.
“It has long been the family’s tradition to spend their Christmas holiday at Mar-a-Lago. Her plans to travel with her son to their Florida home for his winter break have not changed this year,” Stephanie Grisham told CNN.
It is unclear when Mrs. Trump may return.
On Saturday, Trump announced the Senate had adjourned until after Christmas, making an end to the shutdown prior to the Christmas holiday unlikely.
