New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu is putting his criticisms of former President Donald Trump behind him and will support him as the presumptive nominee for the Republican party in 2024.
Throughout the GOP primary, Sununu criticized Trump for his rhetoric and instead advocated for his last rival, former United Nations ambassador Nikki Haley. However, after losing to Trump in several primary races on Super Tuesday, Haley dropped out of the race earlier this week.
During a radio interview on Thursday with WMUR’s Adam Sexton, Sununu reiterated his commitment to support the Republican challenger to President Joe Biden in November.
“I’m going to support the ticket. I’m going to support Donald Trump,” Sununu said during the interview, according to The Boston Globe. “But my focus is definitely going to be here in the state.”
He then went on to bash Biden over his administration’s economic polices, lack of organization, and the president’s handling of the current immigration influx at the southern border.
However, Sununu did not shy away from his past criticism of Trump, including the ex-president’s claim that he should be granted immunity for his actions while in office. In prior interviews, Sununu has called on the GOP to move past Trump and referred to him as a drag on the party.
Previously, he predicted Trump would lose to Biden in 2024, telling CNN’s Anderson Cooper that Trump’s a “three-time loser going on to be a four-time loser.”
