AOC Calls Out Netanyahu on Mehdi Hasan’s Show For ‘Shocking’ Ban of Tlaib and Omar From Visiting Israel

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) accused her fellow Democrats of lacking concern for the abuse of Palestinians in Gaza, which she connected to Benjamin Netanyahu, slamming the Israeli prime minister’s past policies in dealing with the ongoing conflict.

Ocasio-Cortez joined the MSNBC host to talk about the current state of the war in Israel. After discussing the strain of resources, Hasan noted that “almost all of the at least 18 House Democrats who called for a ceasefire in Gaza are people of color.”

“How much of the congressional indifference to Palestinian life in Gaza, the refusal in D.C. to acknowledge sometimes the humanity and innocence, not to mention the suffering of all ordinary Gazans. How much of that is driven by the fact that they’re Arabs?” Hasan asked. “Or they’re Muslims? Or they don’t look like us?”

Ocasio-Cortez said it was “quite shocking” to see the House “sidelining” human rights issues involving Palestinians.

“We’ve been trying to raise the alarm bells around this for years,” she said. “There has been virtually no acknowledgment in the United States House of Representatives about the extreme plight and continued human rights violations of the Palestinian people. For years. I find it alarming.”

Ocasio-Cortez pointed out that Israel blocked her fellow progressive Representatives Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) and Ilhan Omar (D-MN) from visiting the country back in 2019.

Ocasio-Cortez called Netanyahu’s banning of Omar and Tlaib “shocking.” She said she was also dismayed by the lack of outrage among Congressional Democrats at the time.

“I found it shocking in 2019… when Prime Minister Netanyahu banned two United States sitting members of Congress from coming to Israel,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “Banned two members of the United States Congress from entering the country. That my own colleagues did not seem to say or do much of anything, that should be an affront to our entire government and country.”
