CNN’s Keith Boykin and Bruce LeVell Battle Over Trump and Charlottesville: ‘You’re Filibustering Now’
Yesterday on Air Force One, President Donald Trump told reporters that during his conversation with Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) he informed the lawmaker that there were “some pretty bad dudes on the other side” in Charlotteville, resurrecting his “both sides” argument regarding the violence there last month.
CNN held a panel discussion on Trump’s comments this morning, and things got a bit heated between CNN political commentator Keith Boykin and guest Bruce LeVell, a Trump advisor who serves as the executive director of Trump’s national diversity coalition. After the two men made their points during the segment, they each got a little peeved with the other as it wound down.
After LeVell stood up for Trump and said that the president was just trying to condemn “hate everywhere,” he then said that “we’re not going to sit up here and twist words around and jump in the president’s head,” leading Boykin to declare that “it’s not about twisting words.”
“Excuse me. Excuse me. I didn’t cut you off,” LeVell exclaimed before going on to say that we don’t know all that was discussed between Scott and Trump.
“You’re filibustering now,” Boykin interjected.
Anchor Kate Bolduan then turned to Boykin, asking him to deliver one final thought on the topic. However, as the commentator tried to give his take, LeVell interrupted him a couple of times, causing Boykin to ask LeVell to “let me finish.”
“Don’t be a hypocrite, like your president,” he added.
