Fox & Friends Host Slams Trump Critics for Using ‘Any Piece of Evidence’ to Hit Grieving Widow Call

Fox & Friends guest host Pete Hegseth attacked Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-FL) for her claim about President Donald Trump’s supposedly-insensitive phone call with the widow of one of the soldiers killed in Niger earlier this month.

Earlier today, the president claimed he has proof that Wilson is lying about how he supposedly called Sgt. La David Johnson’s wife and casually remarked “he knew what he signed up for.” Fox & Friends slammed Wilson for her “totally inappropriate” politicalization earlier today, and Hegseth joined his colleagues in blasting her account of the call:

“[The Democrats] will take any line of argument they can against this president. She has been a lock-stock member of the Resist movement from Day One. If she gets an opportunity to twist or spin the president’s words, even if it’s around a dead soldier, they will do it. We saw what they did with the gold star father at the convention. We saw how they carried that narrative forward. They want to question at every turn what he says he is committed to. There is no one more committed, I believe, to our service members, to our veterans, than this president.”

Hegseth also defended Trump by running with his talking point that President Barack Obama never called chief of staff John Kelly after his son was killed in action years ago. The panel went on to gush about how thoughtful Trump was to take time out of his schedule to call Johnson’s family.

“It does speak to how much he cares but it will tell us a lot about Democrats and how committed they are to resisting no matter what,” Hegseth said.

At the same time Hegseth was blasting Wilson, she was giving interviews and standing by her remarks. The congresswoman said on CNN that she has proof for her claims too, and that “the President is evidently lying.”

In a Washington Post report out Wednesday morning, Johnson’s mother — who was in the car with Wilson when her grieving daughter-in-law received the call from Trump – confirmed the congresswoman’s account and said: “President Trump did disrespect my son and my daughter and also me and my husband.”
