Jeanine Pirro Off the Air a Week After Fox News Condemned Comments About Ilhan Omar
A new Justice With Jeanine Pirro will not air tonight. Instead, the Fox News channel will air a re-run of the documentary series Scandalous in the 9pm slot.
Pirro’s absence from the air is noteworthy not only because the Fox News host rarely misses her Saturday show but because her absence comes just one week after her controversial remarks on Rep. Ilhan Omar.
During her last Saturday open, Pirro said this, speaking of the freshman Congresswoman: “Think about this. She’s not getting this anti-Israel sentiment doctrine from the Democrat party…So if it’s not rooted in the party, where is she getting it from? Think about it. Omar wears a hijab, which according to the Quran 33:59, tells women to cover so they won’t get molested.”
In response, Fox News condemned Pirro’s remarks.
“We strongly condemn Judge Jeanine Pirro’s comments about Rep. Ilhan Omar,” the statement provided to Mediaite read. “They do not reflect those of the network and we have addressed the matter with her directly.”
Pirro also responded to the controversy, issuing a statement inviting Omar on her show and insisting she did not call Omar “un-American.”
“I’ve seen a lot of comments about my opening statement from Saturday night’s show and I did not call Rep. Omar un-American,” Pirro said. “My intention was to ask a question and start a debate, but of course because one is Muslim does not mean you don’t support the Constitution. I invite Rep. Omar to come on my show any time to discuss all of the important issues facing America today.”
Fox News responded to a request for comment by stating, “we are not commenting on internal scheduling matters.”
Pirro has also not tweeted since March 10.
