Katy Tur Confronts Kavanaugh Attorney on New Accuser: ‘Are You Calling Her a Liar?’
Katy Tur confronted Brett Kavanaugh‘s attorney Beth Wilkinson on MSNBC this afternoon about the latest allegation against her client from Julie Swetnick.
Wilkinson reiterated that Kavanaugh has made clear he doesn’t know her and never met her, adding that she’s received calls from people at those parties saying they never saw her there.
The suggestion of “gang rape” at those parties, she said, is such a “frightening allegation” that Swetnick’s attorney Michael Avenatti should have gone to law enforcement.
Tur asked, “Are you calling her a liar?”
Wilkinson said she’s “not calling her a liar,” again finding it strange that Avenatti “never went to the police.”
“If I had represented her, it would have been my duty to go to the police immediately,” she said.
At one point Tur brought up the comments by President Donald Trump defending Kavanaugh and asked Wilkinson if she agrees it’s a “con” by the Democrats.
Wilkinson said her client doesn’t want to speculate, reiterating that he “knows that he didn’t do this.”
Tur asked if Kavanaugh believes “any of the women who came out and accused the president of sexual misconduct.”
“I don’t know what that has to do with this,” Wilkinson said. “I’ve never discussed that with him. We’re talking about what’s happening here. And I came today to be on your program to tell you exactly what he believes and what we know. And that’s it. I’m not here to make political arguments and comment on what the president said or didn’t say. The point is someone is making these outrageous allegations about him with no detail over multiple years with multiple people and he’s telling you he did none of it. He doesn’t know her.”
