Shep Smith Throws Shade at Trump Over Pershing Tweet: ‘There’s The Presidential Input of the Day’

As the terrorist attack in Barcelona is still unfolding, President Trump revived the tall tale of Gen. John J. Pershing‘s supposed tactics he used to eliminate radical Islamic extremism.

Numerous times during the election, Trump repeated the unverified story that Pershing cracked down on Islamic terrorism in the early 1900s by “dipping bullets into pigs blood” and using them to shoot extremists.

Fox News’ Shepard Smith was reporting live when Trump made the tweet.

“Well that’s what the president tweeted,” Smith reacted. “Helpful? I don’t know.”

Smith then echoed what Trump has previously said on the campaign trail.

“U.S. General John J Pershing did not effectively discourage Muslim terrorists in the Philippines by killing them and burying their body along with those pigs. Quoting now, ‘they let the 50th man go and for next 42 years there was not single Muslim extremist attack anywhere in the world,'” Smith said.  “Of course the problem with this is it isn’t true.”

He pointed to the Snopes report that the premise of Trump’s tweet “is false.”

“It’s just not what happened, but there’s the presidential input for the day,” he snarked before carrying on with his coverage of the attack.
