Trump Blasts Media For Asking About Stormy Daniels, Mueller Probe: That ‘Crap’ is ‘All You Want to Talk About’
President Donald Trump sniped at reporters Friday just before boarding Air Force One to Dallas to speak at the annual National Rifle Association convention.
The president and his team came under fire Wednesday night after former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, the newest addition to Trump’s outside legal team, told Fox News host Sean Hannity that the president repaid his longtime attorney Michael Cohen $130,000 for hush money to adult film star Stormy Daniels just days before the November 2016 presidential election. It was the first time anyone close to the president had acknowledged that Cohen was reimbursed for the sum, prompting even more questions about possible FEC violations by the president.
As the president prepared to board Air Force One to Dallas Friday, reporters asked Trump, “when did you change your story on Stormy Daniels?”
“We’re not changing any stories,” Trump responded. “All I’m telling you is this country is right now running so smooth and to be bringing up that kind of crap and to be bringing up witch hunts all the time, that’s all you want to talk about.”
The exchange then became even more heated as the president and reporters battled to talk over each other.
“You’re going to see — excuse me, excuse me — no but you have to — excuse me, you take a look at what I said. You go back and take a look. You’ll see what I said — excuse me, excuse me — you go take a look at what we said…But this is a witch-hunt like — but what I do want you to do is look at our economy,” Trump said, having just referred moments earlier to Friday’s jobs numbers.
The president’s instruction to reporters to “take a look at what I said” seemed to discredit what Giuliani told Hannity regarding his repayment to Cohen. Less than one month ago, Trump told reporters that “no,” he did not know where the money to Daniels came from. Trump defended Giuliani as a “great guy,” but noted that he just started “yesterday” and that he’ll “get his facts straight.”
