Trump Signs Executive Order on Immigration; Wall Planning Starts ‘Immediately’
On Wednesday afternoon, President Donald Trump signed two new executive orders pertaining to immigration, including the big one: Living up to his biggest campaign promise, one of the orders puts into motion plans to build “a physical wall on the southern border. monitored and supported by adequate personnel.” The orders also end the “catch and release” policy used under Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama, where those entering illegally were sent back into Mexico quickly instead of being arrested and officially being deported.
“I just signed two executive orders that will save thousands of lives, millions of jobs and billions and billions of dollars,” Trump said while speaking at the Department of Homeland Security. “By working together, safe borders and economic cooperation, I truly believe we can enhance the relation between our two nations, to a degree not seen before, certainly, in a very, very long time. I think our relationship with Mexico is going to get better.”
