The Washington Post ran a report, Sunday, about President Donald Trump’s weight — noting in the headline that it poses a “significant health risk.”
In a piece written by the Post’s Dan Diamond, Trump was cited as weighing 238 lbs. according to a May White House physical — 23 lbs. heavier than the 215 he was listed at during his 2023 booking in the Georgia election interference case.
“[T]he president has appeared heavier in photos than he did during his campaign, and the administration said he gained 14 pounds between his most recent annual medical check-ups,” Diamond wrote. “White House physicians have said they’ve advised Trump — who has made little secret of his love for fast food and his distaste for intense exercise — to focus on weight loss, improving his diet and sustained physical activity. Outside doctors put it more directly: The 80-year-old president would be safer if he reduced his waistline.”
Scott Kahan — director for the National Center for Weight and Wellness, and a George Washington University physician — told the Post, “We know that obesity is a strong risk factor for numerous health issues — as well as premature disability and death. Addressing obesity to protect the president’s health should be a priority similar to ensuring Secret Service protections for his life.”
Trump’s weight has long been fodder for critics to mock him. Back in May, MS NOW hosts posted photos of Trump side-by-side with several NFL players who are reported to be a similar weight and height to the president. Those photos showed Trump appearing far heavier than the football players.
In response to the story, White House spokesman Davis Ingle told the Post in a statement, “President Trump’s sharpness, unmatched energy, relentless work ethic and historic accessibility stand in stark contrast to what we saw during the last administration when Democrats and the legacy media intentionally covered up Joe Biden’s serious mental and physical decline from the American people.”
